Spring Break

Rising lithely from the fertile soils of the highlands, Spring Break are a kaleidoscopic folk-funk, hip hop outfit, presenting a spectrum of songsmithery and lucid lyricism daubed parodiously on a breathtaking backdrop of luxurious soundscapes. Quintessentially Scottish in their playfully morose attitude, whilst weaving a rich tapestry of global influences, all the while embracing the flamboyant aesthetics of Hawaiian tropical technicolour.

With an ever evolving roster of reputable rogues regaling the ranks, the group can metamorphose to fit main stages and intimate venues alike. The formidable live show encompasses an eclectic mix of vocals, drums, bass, decks, brass, strings and woodwind to further divest the rich blends of jazz, folk, funk and dance into the swirling cosmos of hip hop. Whether playing as a 3 piece or a full live band, the sound is full, rich and ultimately inclusive.
Born and raised in Scotland’s sun soaked festival fields, Spring Break offered a vibrant and optimistic welcome in the form of 2015’s DIY smorgasbord of alternative hip hop; the Departure Lounge EP. A tightly woven fabric of yet to be hits about apathy, aquatic indiscretions and the foibles of Highland life, delivered in an easily digestible vernacular with powerfully lilting vocals and a colourful concoction of expertly blended instrumentation, set succinctly in the masterful production of the elusive Thelonious Rumpus.
Their unrelenting work rate saw them tour with Stanley Odd, play every major festival in Scotland, including winning a place on the T Break stage at T in the Park, gaining national press coverage, appearing live on STV’s The Riverside Show and featuring in an advert for prestigious audio giants Bowers and Wilkins. Their song The Slouch gained national radio recognition on the BBC, Amazing Radio and XFM.
A year of hard labor paid dividends as the public vote won them the “Best Hip Hop” accolade at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards 2015.
Since then they have gained international recognition playing the Vanguard festival in Gothenburg, Sweden and graduated to main stage slots at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, Loopaloo, Jocktoberfest and Brew at the Bog as well as winning new fans at some of Scotland’s finest boutique festivals. Another busy summer culminated with them performing to a packed studio audience on Janyce Forsyth’s live Edinburgh Fringe broadcast for the BBC.

2017 heralds the release of the band’s first full length album Tropicaledonia; a psychedelic and intrepid exploration of the human condition, vividly painted on the ethereal luxury of an altered reality.
