General Information About MugStock

What is MugStock?

MugStock is a Festival of Music & Merriment. It used to take place at Mugdock Country Park (hence the name), and from August 2024 will be based in the stunning, larger and more accessible new site, Strathallan Castle.

Visitors can expect camping, glamping and live in vehicle pitches, a huge variety of live music across a range of stages and venues, independent traders, locally sourced food and drink, activities and workshops for all ages, and a range of extraordinary occurrences, including SmugStock – an opportunity to watch bands on the main stage whilst enjoying a massage.

Conceived as a more chilled out alternative to larger events, MugStock promises a plethora of under-discovered and emerging talent, a safe and relaxed atmosphere, and a reasonably priced bar supporting Scottish independent brewers.

As a Not For Profit Festival, MugStock’s mission is to make people happy by creating a safe, authentic, and uplifting environment to be enjoyed by and to inspire a diverse audience.

MugStock is a Registered Charity

Location / Getting Here
MugStock has a new site for 2023. You can find us in the palatial grounds of Strathallan Castle, near Auchterarder in Perth & Kinross. It’s extremely easy to get to from anywhere in central Scotland and there are plenty of great public transport options. Visit our location / travel page for more info
We are a proudly dog friendly festival, however our new site is home to some livestock and wildlife who are less well disposed to our canine pals. We’re pleased to have permission to allow dogs on site, however we will have to enforce a very strict policy of dogs on leads at all times (other than in a designated exercise area). Dogs will need a ticket, which you can buy at the same time as your own.

Fair Work Policy

MugStock is a small charity which mainly relies on the support of volunteers and freelancers for the operation of its annual flagship music festival. Since 2022 we have also employed a small number of staff, and since becoming an employer have adopted the principles of fair work as outlined below.

This policy has been developed in association with our present staff team.

  1. All employees (including apprentices) are paid a minimum of the Real Living Wage
    1. The present rate is outlined at:
  2. All employees are provided with support and supervision from a designated line manager.
  3. The insight, expertise and opinion of our staff is crucial to the development of our charity and event. Line managers provide opportunities for feedback via regular support and supervision. An annual contributors survey sent to all staff, volunteers and subcontractors includes an invitation to feed back on all aspects of the event.
    1. From 2024 this will incorporate a specific request to feed back on the operation of the company, including communication and line management.
  4. Exit interviews with departing staff will provide another opportunity for employees’ voices to be heard.
  5. We will issue clearly worded contracts outlining employees conditions and rights.
  6. Zero hour contracts will be used only by mutual agreement that this would be the best option for the employee (e.g. because they have requested the flexibility).
  7. MugStock oppose the use of fire and rehire practices.
  8. As a family focussed organisation, we will make all reasonable adjustments to allow parents to work flexibly.
  9. Out-with the logistic necessity of having staff on site during event production periods, and for premises focussed staff to be on site during public opening hours, flexible working will be available to all staff, with hybrid working being the norm for most.
  10. Our recruitment processes are underpinned by our Equality and Diversity policy.
  11. People of all genders will always be paid the same rate for the equivalent work.
  12. MugStock recognises the value of building a diverse workforce representative of the society in which we operate, and will work to help people to succeed as part of our organisation regardless of any protected characteristics.
  13. MugStock recognises the value and role contributed by Trade Unions in promoting workers’ rights and best practice. We warmly support our staff joining, and seeking support and advice from Trade Unions.
  14. MugStock will proactively support workers to develop their skills, knowledge and networks.
  15. As MugStock grows, we aspire to employ more people, more regularly and more permanently. As we do, we will continue to improve our Fair Working practices.
Covid 19

MugStock will take place in August 2024.

We will be following Government guidelines on best practices for our festival’s health & safety in relation to Covid 19.

Hot water and hand washing facilities will be available on site.

Keeping our community safe is our top priority.

For one glorious weekend we all get to call the fields of Strathallan home. But the rest of the year its main residents are sheep. Our woolly friends go on holiday at least 4 weeks before any event, at which point the good people of Strathallan Castle give the fields a bit of a spring clean in readiness for you all. So the ground should be clean of sheep poop, but as with all grazing land there is a risk of E. Coli 0157 infection from contact with soil, animal droppings and mud. To prevent infection please take these precautions:

  • Always wash hands after animal contact and before eating, drinking or smoking
    • preferably hot running water, soap and clean towels
    • sanitising gel can help but only if your hands are already “clean”
    • Hand washing facilities with hot water are available in the main arena and campsites facilities area
  • Keep children supervised – especially those under 5
    • don’t let them put anything in their mouth which has been dropped
  • Before leaving – check and clean footwear, buggy wheels etc.
    • if not possible, keep apart and clean carefully at home
