GETTING TO MUGSHACK
MugShack – the charity behind MugStock: A Festival of Music & Merriment – is located in Cumbernauld’s original town hall, and since early 2020 have been refurbishing the space bringing it back to life as a community space for events and projects. It is situated on the 3rd floor of The Centre Cumbernauld, right above a 24 hour taxi office and the town’s main bus station.
Getting up to the 3rd Floor
The main challenge is reaching the correct side of the third floor. The centre spans a dual carriageway that cannot be crossed on foot, and the bus station is split across both sides on Floor 1.
The MugShack is located on the same side as Cumbernauld Library and Happitots Nursery (Floor 3), JD Gym (Floor 2), the Taxi Office, Loading Bay, and Service Lift (Floor 1), and Red Car Park 2 (Floor 0). This is also where buses from Edinburgh arrive and buses to Glasgow depart. If being dropped off, use the bus stop on the Tesco-bound side of the dual carriageway.
Buses from Glasgow and those heading to Edinburgh stop on the opposite side of the building. Parking in Green Car Parks 1–3 will also place you on that side, so Red Car Park 2 is recommended. If you end up on the wrong side, go to Floor 2 to cross over, then proceed to Floor 3. On Floor 3, turn right from the lift—The MugShack is behind the large black shutter on your right, as shown in the video below:
If you reach Happitots Nursery or Cumbernauld Library you’ve gone too far!
Driving
Parking is free in both the Red and Green car parks; however, Red Car Park 2 is the most convenient.
Enter the car park, proceed under cover, and park as far along as possible toward the opposite end. Nearby stairs will lead you to a lift (see photo below). This places you on Floor 0, on the correct side of the building. Take the lift to Floor 3, turn right, and you’ll find the MugShack behind a black shutter on the right.
Please note: the building has two sides, each with a third floor, but only the side marked “Library” houses the MugShack.

Trains
Cumbernauld Train Station is about a 20 minute walk away from the MugShack. A better option might be Croy Station. Croy is on the main line between Glasgow and Edinburgh so trains are regular. From Croy a taxi to the MugShack should cost about £6. Call Central Cars on 01236 722772 or Xpress Cars on 01236 738738.
If you end up walking to the MugShack, find your way to Tescos, then as you face Tesco, take the path on the right, then the first right past a place called Cornerstone into a covered walkway (if you get to William Hill you’ve gone 2 far). Keep going until you reach 2 passenger lifts. Take them to Floor 3 and you’re there.

Buses
If you get the bus from the East (i.e Edinburgh) you’ll get off on the right side, on Floor 1.
- Head into the waiting area. You’ll see a 24 hour taxi office (Central Cars) on the right and 2 lifts on the left. Take either lift to Floor 3. You can also take the adjacent ramp (blue walls, just keep going up and up).
If you get the bus from the West (i.e Glasgow) you’ll get off on the wrong side.
- Take the lift to Floor 2, then walk through the centre until you get to another set of 2 lifts and take one of them to Floor 3.
