Idlewild, Craig Charles, Beardyman, Utah Saints and Henge are among the first acts confirmed for MugStock’s long anticipated comeback edition in which we take up residence at our gorgeous new home Strathallan Castle (PH3 1JZ).
From Friday 4th – Monday 7th August 2023 we will be presenting a selection of the finest acts we know of in an idyllic setting full of nice people. It’s been a long time coming, and we can’t wait!
After having Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble as one of the main acts in 2018 we are so excited to have him back with his band, who since 1995 have been one of Scotland;’s finest proponents of heart felt lyrics, chunky riffs and stirring melodies. Idlewild are our Saturday main stage headliners.
Craig Charles is a national treasure, known for his appearance on Red Dwarf, his shows on BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 2 and his ability to stir a crowd into a funk fuelled frenzy during his highly renowned DJ sets. It’s an honour sir. Craig Charles joins us on Sunday night, as do Henge, the friendly band of beings from another planet, who masterfully occupy the ground you didn’t know existed between rave and prog.
One of the world’s finest beatboxers and so much more; Beardyman combines his credentials as unarguably one of the most versatile proponents of the human voice, with an endless desire to push the boundaries of his performances through the seamless use of music technology, via the ever evolving and baffling array of devices known as the BEARDYTRON. This will be utterly superb. Fact.
Utah Saints are no strangers to festivals, having organised a few themselves, and played at countless since the early 90s when they shot to fame with songs such as UK number 4 “Something Good”. Get your best dancing shoes at the ready as they will headline Friday night!
Previous MugStock goers will welcome the return of Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5: stalwarts of the unique institution of the Scottish DIY grasss roots music scene The Yellow Movement. Their fans will likely approve of the addition of acts such as Mickey 9s, Girobabies, The Well Happy Band and power punk duo The Twistettes
Our new site is matched with a more ambitious than ever programme which includes enchanting chanteuse Siobhan Wilson (fresh from a sell-out Celtic Connections show), London Astrobeat Orchestra putting their own unique spin on classic songs by Talking Heads, Scottish Pop Icons BIS, Preston Reed (widely regarded as one of the greatest living guitarists on planet earth), and Scottish reggae soundsystem heavyweights Mungo’s Hifi.
MugStock will feature acts from near and far, with Perthshire local legends True Gents due to open the main stage, the virtuosically unclassifiable Westfalia coming all the way from Italy, and up and coming folk group Falasgair trecking down from Skye.
Highly regarded singer songwriters John Rush and The Narcissist Cookbook, the mysterious and magical Minerva Wakes, and living legend and children’s entertainer Mr Boom round off the first line up announcement, and we are still booking, so please direct any talented performers you know to www.mugstock.org/perform now.
